From task-driven to agentic. How AI is quietly powering ecommerce growth
In the media
On a recent episode of Add to Cart, David Brudenell, Executive Director at Decidr, shared his perspective on why ecommerce businesses need to move beyond task-based tools and embrace agentic AI to stay competitive.

Brudenell described Decidr’s vision as building the “Toyota Camry engine” of business, reliable, invisible and always running in the background. The goal is to remove the need for constant app-switching and manual workflows by enabling AI agents to act on unified business data and drive growth autonomously.
Drawing on his background in both science and technology, Brudenell explained how the DecidrOS connects platforms like Shopify, Xero, Klaviyo and Google Ads to create a single source of truth. This integration allows its goal-driven AI apps to make smart decisions across marketing, finance and customer service, without requiring human prompts for every task.
One ecommerce client saw a 5% lift in revenue in just eight weeks after switching to Decidr’s agentic approach. Brudenell also discussed findings from Decidr’s AI Readiness Index, noting that many Australian SMEs are still prioritising efficiency over long-term growth, a trend he sees shifting as AI matures.
The conversation covered a wide range of topics, including:
- The difference between agentic AI, AI agents and LLMs
- Why the current SaaS model of endless point solutions is unsustainable
- How AI is reshaping ecommerce roles and decision-making
- What a practical AI roadmap looks like for SMEs in 2025.
